Porsche Carrera Cup North America is the premier one-make championship on the continent, attracting the best Pro, Pro-Am, and Masters drivers from across North America and around the world. Competitors race in identical Porsche 911 Cup cars (type 992.2) – the latest evolution of Porsche’s purpose-built race machine.
As one of just five global Porsche series debuting the new Porsche 911 Cup car (type 992.2) in 2026, Carrera Cup North America continues to set the benchmark for professional GT competition. The championship races alongside the biggest events on the North American motorsport calendar, including the Grand Prix of Long Beach, 12 Hours of Sebring, Watkins Glen Six Hours, Petit Le Mans, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Six Hours – plus two marquee rounds supporting Formula 1 in Miami and Austin.
Built for those who demand precision at the limit, the Porsche 911 Cup car (type 992.2) is engineered to dominate. Its 4.0-liter flat-six engine now produces 520 horsepower – 10 more than its predecessor – screaming to 9,000 rpm with individual throttle bodies and longer valve lift for sharper response and more linear power. No turbos. No compromise. Just pure mechanical connection.
Every line of the Porsche 911 Cup car (type 992.2) is shaped by purpose: a three-piece front lip, fender louvres, and the iconic swan-neck rear wing maximize downforce and stability. Underneath, refined aerodynamics and new turning vanes carve the air with surgical precision. Wider brake discs and improved cooling enhance durability and feel, while a reengineered steering setup sharpens control through every corner.
Inside, the cockpit is all business. A new multifunction steering wheel and touch-panel display put key adjustments at the driver’s fingertips – including tire air temperature readouts and GPS timing – eliminating distractions and simplifying setup. Every element is designed for focus, feedback, and performance.
With capacity grids, world-class drivers, and unmatched event presence, Porsche Carrera Cup North America represents the pinnacle of one-make competition on the continent. Built for Competition
Developed by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach, the Porsche 911 Cup car (type 992.2) is the cornerstone of Carrera Cup championships around the world. Equal machinery, meticulous engineering, and an unwavering focus on driver performance make it the ultimate test of talent. Whether in the hands of a seasoned Pro, a rising Pro-Am contender, or an experienced Masters competitor, it delivers an unmatched racing experience—pure, precise, and unmistakably Porsche.
Engine & Performance
At its heart lies a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine that now produces 520 horsepower—a gain of 10 hp over the previous generation. Revving to 9,000 rpm, it delivers linear power and throttle response that is pure Porsche. Individual throttle bodies and longer valve lift improve breathing efficiency, while the six-speed sequential gearbox continues to deliver the quick, positive shifts that define the Cup car experience. No turbos. No compromise. Just precision engineering and mechanical honesty that rewards every ounce of driver skill.
Aerodynamics & Design
Every surface of the Porsche 911 Cup car (type 992.2) is shaped by performance. From its three-piece front lip and fender louvres that manage airflow, to the swan-neck rear wing that maximizes downforce and stability, the new design enhances aerodynamic efficiency and balance. Updated underbody geometry and turning vanes channel air with surgical precision, increasing grip and predictability through every phase of a corner. The result is a race car that feels sharper, more stable, and more responsive at the limit.
Braking & Handling
Confidence under braking is everything. The new wider brake discs and revised cooling system provide greater durability and improved pedal feedback, ensuring consistent stopping performance over long stints. A reengineered steering system delivers finer control and a tighter turning radius, giving drivers the confidence to attack every apex and braking zone with precision.
Cockpit & Driver Interface
Inside, it’s all business. The cockpit of the Porsche 911 Cup car (type 992.2) is designed for absolute focus and functionality. A new multifunction steering wheel brings key controls directly to the driver’s fingertips, while an updated touch-panel display allows adjustments to critical systems without the need for a laptop. Added features such as tire air temperature readouts and GPS-based lap timing offer deeper insights in real time. Every element serves one purpose: to keep the driver connected, informed, and in control.

Since 1990, Porsche Cup vehicles have been built on the base of the 911. On November 28, 2022, the 5,000th Cup vehicle rolled off the assembly line. At the same time, almost 5,000 races have been conducted in one-make series with Porsche Cup vehicles – a unique success story.
Upon the development of the Porsche 964 in 1990, the “Porsche Carrera Cup” was launched. The philosophy of the race series: uniform vehicles, tires, and fuel. On a technical level, cup vehicles are identical; the same goes for the tires. Everyone starts under the same conditions.
The first Porsche Carrera Cup Germany in 1990 was won by Olaf Manthey. He raced across the Circuit Zolder in Belgium with his Kümmerling-green Porsche 911 and claimed the championship title.
The 911 Cup (type 992.2) vehicles are assembled in the main 911 facility in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, the very same production line as the other road-going sports cars. The race cars are always constructed during model years, often in fall/autumn, to be ready for the next season. One production run takes about eight hours, after which the vehicle is mostly completed and merely needs a final touch along with an approval run before the vehicle can be delivered “race-ready”.
After originally launching in Germany, Porsche Carrera Cup racing went international in 1993 with the launch of the Mobil 1 Porsche Supercup, which has accompanied major Formula 1 races every year since. German racer Altfrid Heger took the championship in its first year.
