JDX Racing’s Alex Sedgwick has his sights set on repeating his Porsche Carrera Cup North America win from Watkins Glen earlier this year after setting the fastest time in qualifying at Road Atlanta today.

The British racer – making his first-ever start at the Georgian track – stopped the clocks at 1:20.998 and was the only driver to break into the 1-minute, 20-second bracket.

Championship leader Loek Hartog (Kellymoss) was only +0.059 of a second adrift, with Ryan Yardley (Topp Racing), Zach Vanier (JDX Racing), and Dan Clarke (Era Motorsports) completing the top five.

Today’s qualifying session was interrupted by a red flag seven minutes into qualifying when Jake Pedersen spun his No. 85 Kellymoss entry along the front straightaway.

A second red flag was waved with 10 minutes to go when Michael Cooper’s No. 88 Baby Bull Racing Porsche went off track at Turn 6.

“ Yeah, it feels awesome,” Sedgwick said.

“It’s been a while since we were last on pole and fastest in qualifying since Miami. We’ve been doing a lot of work and testing last week. We’ve been working to get the most out of the car.

“This is a brand-new track for me, but what an awesome place – an awesome track.”

ACI Motorsports’ Marco Cirone signaled he wants to fight hard for the Pro-Am championship by setting the pole today. Cirone topped Kellymoss teammates, former series champions Efrin Castro, and current points leader Alan Metni.

“This morning was fantastic. I got to hand it to the team,” Cirone said.

“They gave me an absolutely incredible car. I’ve been working closely with Will Bamber and George Bourque in testing, and they’ve been doing an incredible job. The car was just absolutely perfect.

“Today’s pole goes out to them because they gave me an incredible car.”

The Masters class battle was tight at the top, with less than 2/10ths of a second separating the top three. Scott Blind took the top spot for Ruckus Racing ahead of championship leader Matt Halcome (ACI Motorsports) and yesterday’s pacesetter, Chris Bellomo (Kellymoss)

“It just feels great to be on pole here at Road Atlanta in Carrera Cup – it’s such a big deal,” Blind said.

“It’s super good competition out there. We made some adjustments to the car overnight, and we found a little speed. And here we are – we’re at the top.
