Porsche Carrera Cup North America continues to showcase itself as a “talent factory” for young drivers aiming to take the next step into professional motorsport.

British ace Alex Sedgwick is the latest Carrera Cup winner to take the next step on the Porsche driver development pyramid and immediately make an impact.

After two seasons in Carrera Cup with a PT Autosport-backed JDX Racing entry, last year’s Watkins Glen race winner graduated to GT World Challenge America last weekend for his debut aboard a Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Backed by Momentum Brewery’s “Race Brew” brand, Sedgwick teamed up with Porsche veteran Jan Heylen aboard the RS1-run Porsche at the opening round of the championship at Sonoma Raceway.

The British ace finished fourth in the Pro class in Saturday’s race with Heylen before pulling out a stunning performance on Sunday to actually hold the race lead until the dying moments of the race.

While he would eventually cross the line in second place, Sedgwick’s performance demonstrated he is more than ready to make an impact in the GT World Challenge America championship with Heylen in 2025.

“Always disappointed to lose the chance at a win, but for my second stint in a GT3 car, I have to be happy with that,” said Sedgwick.

“The team did a great job, Jan did an awesome job. We started P7 on a track that’s notoriously hard to pass on, so we can’t be upset with that.

The team executed the pit stop amazingly but obviously, the safety car was just super unfortunate for us, to lose that lead. I hate being second more than anything, but there are so many positives to take from this weekend.

“This was the first time I drove a closing stint, the first time I did out laps on Pirelli tires. I can’t say enough about Jan and RS1 for helping me feel welcome, feel comfortable in the car, and getting me to where I needed to be. I can’t wait to get to COTA next month.”

The next batch of young, talented drivers eager to mirror Sedgewick’s path and take the next step up the Porsche driver development pyramid will be back from May 2-4 when Porsche Carrera Cup North America returns for the second round of the season at the Miami Formula 1 Grand Prix.
